You think a “sin” is small but they are like splinters in your hand that will fester and poison your life if not separated from you.
We like to think of sin as a huge or traumatic event like murder or stealing. We don’t think of lying as sin. If we do, we consider it a “small sin” and certainly not something that keeps us from the glory we are promised. But I think of sin as any thought or action that separates us from God. To get to the moment of telling a lie, we have a series of thoughts that draw us farther away from God. In Romans 6:23 we are told: “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” This “death” comes before we stop breathing. It is a deadening of the sacred chord that attaches us to the holiest energy, that which assures we live our highest life. Small “sins” become a cross to bear, something Christ has already freed us from.
